Description: A 9 inch Italian felt Lenci miniature Series 310 number 4, "Basilicata" from Snowdrift Antiques. From 1927 until the mid-1930s Lenci produced several smaller dolls that ranged from about 6½" to 9½" tall. These dolls belong to the Series 564, 310, 300 and XX. As a group they are often referred to as "miniatures" and sometimes as "mascottes". They are also widely "knocked off" by by companies such as Fiori, Magos and Eros that made dolls that looked just like them. Often these dolls are advertised as "Lenci"; so be aware of what you are looking at what you are buying. This girl is a Lenci mascotte with black felt hair, muslin body and felt arms. She has blue surprised eyes and "O" shaped mouth common to miniatures. Her face has lots of age discoloration. There are some holes to the felt in the back of her neck which are covered by her hair and headpiece. She has her original round Lenci silver foil tag under her apron. The foil has come loose from the paper backing but is intact. There is some writing on the back of the tag which I cannot decipher. She is identified as Basilicata, Series 310, number 4. She wears an original provincial outfit from the Basilicata region of Italy. It consists of a lavender felt bodice with purple felt and white lace accent at the neck and white cotton puff upper sleeves with lavender felt lower sleeves trimmed in purple felt at the hem. The lavender felt skirt is accented with two rows of purple and one row of hot pink felt trim above skirt hem. She also wears an ornate deep aqua blue felt apron with a lighter aqua felt trim around the border; white embroidered stitches hold the peaks of the trim in place. The apron is folded over at the waist; it is held in place with hot pink felt ties. The upper section is decorated with a large yellow embroidered "M" while the lower section has two blue felt flowers and two red felt strawberries with some embroidered leaves and stems. Her white cotton pantaloons and underskirt are trimmed in the same hot pink scalloped felt. On her head she wears a white cotton headpiece. She also sports gold colored hoop earrings. White knit socks and black felt slippers complete her outfit. The lavender felt is slightly faded as the color is stronger under the apron which has not been exposed to light. There are numerous small holes on felt bodice in front and two on the back of her right lower felt sleeve. The felt on the back of her bodice also has damage which someone attempted to mend. She is a beautiful Lenci miniature with a colorful regional costume, priced accordingly. Her stand is included.
