Description: Stunningly beautiful midcentury Kyugetsu doll wearing a kimono and bamboo hat and holding a shamisen (Japanese string instrument). Made in traditional Japanese fashion, this doll has glass eyes fitted into a beautifully hand-painted porcelain head; hands and feet are also porcelain. When you lightly press her body, you find her body is made of straw or reed shaped to realistic proportion. The kimono is made from beautiful tapestry carefully crafted for a realistic fit and look. The shamisen (instrument) is made of wood and is also hand-crafted. She stands on a small wood platform in fitted geta shoes. No handwritten signatures that I can see, however it still has the Made in Japan sticker. Note: Typical of age, her feet show crazing/signs of age, and her hair is fragile and thinning. There is a small chip in the wood base and could easily be touched up with black paint. Measures 6-1/4 inches tall including stand. Stand measures 2"x3"in. Ships double boxed.
