Description: For sale is one (1) vintage, handmade brass nilavilakku diya, which I understand to be a kind of lamp which holds special meaning to Hindu cultures. The diya stands about 4.25” tall and is of unknown age. This diya, unlike many, is supported by a chain that measures about 2.5” in length. It appears to show some age. There are lots of tiny scuffs blemishes as would be expected with a piece like this, but nothing significant. The major flaw of the piece is that someone has written “$14.00” on the underside of the base—I’m not sure when that was done, or by whom, but it was at least two owners ago. From TheIndianWeave.com: “The peacock as per Hindu tradition signifies beauty and grace and brings joy when lit, hence normally seen hanging at the entrance of most homes and also as a sign of welcome to all guests.” Please note that this is just a diya. It is not an entire nilavilakku. Will be packaged with care and will ship from Texas.
