Description: These ten pieces of hand carved Iron Wood are from the island of Timor in Indonesia. I purchased the set while working and living there in the mid 1980's. I learned that these were carved by the indigenous villagers who were not carvers by trade. They carved a statue in the likeness of a dead person in their family to remember, pay tribute to, and honor them. These people believed the origin of life came from their ancestors who taught them skills, knowledge, prosperity and fertility. You can see the depiction of the personaliies in the carvings. Some almost resemble aliens. Iron wood is very dark and hard and the patina of these statues is very beautiful and smooth. PLEASE ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING! SPECIFICATIONS: HEIGHT: THE TALLEST FIGURE IS 9.5" - THE SHORTEST IS 7" LENGTH: SEED DIGGER - 11.25"
