Description: Thinning the herd. This is my backup Vintage Gibson 1918 CB 3 Serial #398, 12" hollow body Tenor Banjo. I'm not absolutely sure of the serial number, and I didn't want to take it apart to have a better look. Needless to say, the early Loar-inspired hollow body is an incredible bit of workmanship which although it would be impossible to tell if it makes an appreciably deeper sound, would cost more than a gazzillion dollars to recreate today. Gibson 12" banjos are scarce and wondrous, this one bearing on a thin steel ring which is tight on the rim, which I am not sure would make the model designation a TB2, no one has ever really offered me info on the bearing rims. ( I confess that I am hopelessly in love with my #1, a 1918 TB-3, bearing on a tube ring, strung with nylon, and what I consider to be the ultimate folk/minstrel/and unique break instrument.) This TB has been lovingly adjusted to accept a black velvet Remo head, not played for the last 23 years, but quite whole and playable. It comes with a cheap but acceptable case, and has the original flesh hoop if you want to restore it with a proper skin head. It will hopefully find a loving home. Buyer will pay $75 shipping to USA or Canada.
