Vintage Excellent 40-50s ADAM WHIPPET Gray-Blue Beaver 15 Sz 7-3/8 &Box Stetson

Description: OUTSTANDING! Very Very RARE late 1940s to early 1950s Adam Hats - Wide Brim - Whippet style - METAL-BLUE (the under-tag confirmed the color) Fedora - Beaver - size 7-3/8 it’s measures to a fraction under a perfect 7-3/8 by less than 1/16 of an inch, read below), we know the tag states 7-1/4 but back then there was no hat size standardization, read below. This is a Fedora that folks will take a second look at! It’s a REAL LOOKER! We thought this was a Light Blueish Gray color but once we got it outside to take pictures we can see it is a Gray with Blue tint to it. So those same collectors are calling this a “Gun Metal Blue” and there is an under-tag stating this color is BLUE METAL! The picture of the whole underside (not inside the hat box) is the best representation of the actual color.This is one very RARE and OUTSTANDING fedora! Excellent was just not describing it sufficiently! The leather sweatband is completely and securely attached the way around and is still very soft and pliable. If you look closely at the leather sweatband you can see it has no wear to it. Especially look at the Reed, it has no wear to it at all, the reed is the part of the leather sweatband that attaches to the hat. That liner is made from SILK and NOT Satin! They really knew how to make OUTSTANDING hats back then! We had sent pictures to a couple of Dad’s hat collectors since Dad wasn’t certain if this was from the very late 1940s to the very early 1950s. They all agreed that the silk liner and that thin plastic liner cover and Adam logo all set the dating to that time period. There was a feather also inside the hat box. It’s still in good condition, not perfect but well worthy to wear along with this hat. With that wide brim (2.65 inches) and the Wide bound brim edge just makes this an OUTSTANDING Fedora that folks will certainly notice! NOTE: this was the second hat found in that broken oval Adam hat box.you can see that box is all taped up on the top and bottom and just to delicate to ship and not worthy of this outstanding fedora. So Dad has replaced it with that Adam’s 1964-1965 (the dates are printed on the hat box top) Worlds Fair hat box. This square ADAM HATS 1964-1965 hat box is still in very good condition! See pictures we added of the hat box, it does have some paper wear but it’s well worthy of storing the fedora inside and displaying! With its original hat holding insert set and minor paper wear and 2 broken corners. It’s a great sturdy hat box, shipping is a bit more expensive because this hat box is much larger than the Stetson square 1960s hat box and shipping outside the continental USA will include the hat box! This is one time that dad insists that the box go along with the hat. It’s going to be a bit more expensive but well worth the price! So dad has a collection of old stock coat trolley string dating back to the 1960s and he has added one to this fedora, see pictures. These are all very elastic and completely function. If anyone needs these for your hats, look through dad’s listing and you’ll find 2 separate listing, there are not many left, colors are Black, Brown Taupe and gray or SilverBelly. These can easily be sewn onto the hat by any decent tailor or the extra string maybe cut off and used as just a decoration. This was one ADAM HATS most detailed fedora they EVER made! That very wide bound brim edge and took those hat makers more time but well worth the work to make this one heck of a fedora! We left it as a pinched crown fedora, as found, dad and grandson did just a bit of steam shaping to better detail and make the shape sharper. Truly a beautiful fedora! These are so very rarely found in such excellent condition! Since Dad does not have a wide selection of 1940s and 1950s Beaver hats we took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This was a perfect match for the Beaver Fifteen or Twenty. It was so close to a Beaver Twenty but Dad wants to remain conservative and rate this as a Beaver Fifteen. It so easy to determine the Beaver quality when it’s on Dad’s workbench and it’s being steamed, this just feels like melted butter and is easily shaped! It’s just so soft and thick and very easy to work with! Dad and grandson just used his horsehair brush to give it a bit of cleaning and just a bit of steam to tune up the shaping, after sitting in that box for so many years it just needed a slight tune-up. Perfectly shaped with that slight dip on the front brim. Just a great, very sharp looking fedora! This Fedora is out of my son’s collection. He’s selling this one to add an actual Beaver Top hat in a Leather T-Top travel case to his collection out of Dads collection. Dad has a couple of the 1890-1920 “Beaver” Top Hats listed. We say “Beaver” but they only called them “Beaver”, they are actually made from “Plush Spun Silk”. He is actually buying a 1840s actual Beaver Top Hat, one recently discovered in Dad’s hat hoard. Its current shape wise how it was found. A bit of detailing was steamed into the hat (currently a pinched crown) to sharpen up the fedora shape.This could easily be steamed into a center dent which would allow for “Hand Bashing”. Hand Bashing is easily done with the fedora because the Beaver content is such a high quality! You MUST write to us and ask if Dad is willing to reshape it? We just loves the current shape though! Pictures say much more about this great fedora! We took all angles so you can see every detail! Nothing to hide! After taking pictures outside we can see that the liner has just starting to get that aged yellowish patina. If you have any questions please write us. Ok now the particulars This has a size 7-1/4 tag on it but there was no hat sizing standardization back then and in the 1970s the Tilley Hat Sizing chart was developed and most hat companies adopted it. This measures to a near perfect 7-3/8 at 23-1/8 inches! It is about 1/16 of an inch under. This could easily be stretched just by wearing it or if you wear a larger size, it can easily be stretched, since the leather sweatband is still in excellent condition. Many of our hat buyers are using an Amazon $15 hat stretcher with excellent results.
