Description: Gorgeous vintage early Chanel necklace in a classic Chanel color scheme of red and green pate de verre glass beads with glass faux pearls and gilt metal gadrooned, or melon, beads strung on a fine chain. It’s about 18.5 inches end to end unclasped. I have had it professionally authenticated by a third-party authentication company and will send certificate information to the buyer. This style has historically been attributed as having been made for Chanel by Maison Gripoix. Because paruriers were not typically credited alongside the design house in early haute couture jewelry, though, it can be difficult to be completely certain. A necklace using similar components appears in Jewels of Fantasy: Costume Jewelry of the 20th Century by Deanna Farneti Cera on pg. 229 attributed to Maison Gripoix for Chanel circa 1950, and iterations of this necklace have been sold as Gripoix for Chanel by several auction houses over the years. However, I’ve run into a number of pieces recently that have historically been attributed to Gripoix but were actually by Louis Rousselet for Chanel, so while I believe the Gripoix attribution here is likely correct, I’m not absolutely certain. Gorgeous and rare piece. See photos for details. Feel free to message me if you have questions, and take a look at my other listings!
