Description: The state of Arizona is under a stay-at-home order which is making our shipping difficult. We are extending our shipping limit to 20 days. We hope to ship in less time, and we hope soon to be back to our old policy of ten days. We ask for and hope for your patience. Very rare book. Very, very rare. For one thing, it is from South Africa, and may be the only chess book ever published in South Africa. It is certainly the only one I, Ed Yetman, know of, and I've been in the chess book business nearly 40 years. For another, the author is a most modest man. Wolfgang Heidenfeld was a chess master who lived in three countries, South Africa, Ireland, and West Germany, and played on the Olympic teams of all three countries. He was offered the international master title by FIDE, the international chess federation. He turned it down, which is unheard of; he may be the only player who ever did. For a third reason, Heidenfeld pioneered a rare line in the French Defense which is today named after him: 1. P-K4 P-K3, 2. P-Q4 P-Q4, 3. N-QB3 N-KB3, 4. B-KN5 B-K2, 4. P-K5 N-N1. A controversial line, which, it must be said, Heidenfeld never lost while playing it. There are several of his games in this variation, with his own notes, in this book. It is worth it just for that. Worth every penny and then some. A must for any chess book collector or chess historian. Hardback, dustjacket some shopwear, English Descriptive notation. We combine shipping!
