Description: Vintage Print, “A Serious Case”, Norman Rockwell, Unsigned This unsigned print by Norman Rockwell is entitled "A Serious Case" and shows a little girl holding her dolly up to the kindly family physician. As always, Rockwell has captured the emotion of the moment in his detailed portrayal of the concerned little girl and the cooperative family doctor. This print is one of the versions of the doctor and doll print. I have been told that it may be a lithograph for a calendar ("I believe it is a very early litho because of its low number. Many from the 1940s are in the thousands.") The print was framed in the early 1970s but may be from an earlier date. It has been carefully framed and double matted with a beige/gray outer mat and a reddish inner mat; the glass is nonglare. The print measures 14"X17" including the frame. On the bottom left of the print is "GP 201 Litho. in U.S.A."; there is also a logo which I don't recognize. The back has a paper dust cover, a metal hanger at the top, two wall protector feet and a paper label at the bottom ("The Artist Shop Edgewater Plaza Shopping City Phone 896-4852 Midway Between Gulfport & Biloxi"). The print has no stains, marks or rips and seems to be in excellent condition. The medium brown wooden frame, however, has several signs of use including: wear marks on each of the corners on the front, a scratched area on the top measuring about one fourth inch by three eighths inch and several other small scratches in the wood. I believe these could be made less noticeable by using one of those stain pens for furniture. This print is classic Rockwell with its sweetness of a by-gone era.
