Description: This Vintage 50s French Army M1956 Early-Pattern MAS-49/56 Rifle Bayonet & Scabbard is in good, clean condition overall but shows signs of age and service. The blade's crossguard is marked "E-RM" which appears to indicate production in 1959 by the R. Merat Company of Paris. Of note, the blade style seen on this early M1956 example differs slightly from the later M1958 bayonet more commonly encountered. The blade is clean and retains a strong amount of it's original parkerized finish. Both attachment studs move freely and appear to function as you would expect. The scabbard is also clean and well marked, showing only modest signs of age. The backside of the throat is stamped "MAT F" which appears to indicate production took place in 1960 by Manufacture d'armes Tulle. The green leather belt frog is in very good condition and only displays light evidence of age and wear from service. The leather is still strong and supple and the metal hardware is clean and functional. The parkerized finish of the steel scabbard body is strong and mostly intact. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of condition.
