Description: ***********I am a long time VRF (vintagerolexforum.com) member in good standing. Although the hacking 1575 automatic movement keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over as it should considering that it was last serviced in 2012 a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. The original bracelet was replaced by Rolex during a service in 1999.***********This vintage 1972 Rolex 1665 'Double Red' Seadweller with seldom seen MKIII dial came from the estate of its original owner who served as a Navy SEAL in the late 1960's/early 1970's. The matte black "SWISS - T < 25" signed dial is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows edge wear. This wear is nearly visually imperceptible in person. The original lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged gracefully. The fat font bezel insert (referred to as a MK4 by some, MK2 by old school collectors) presents beautifully with the bezel rotating bidirectionally with an appropriate amount of tension. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear. The outside of the case back is stamped "ROLEX" and "ROLEX PATENT GAS ESCAPE VALUE OYSTER." The inside of the case back is stamped "MONTRES ROLEX S.A." followed by "GENEVA,""SWITZERLAND,""PATENTED,""STAINLESS STEEL,""1665" and "I.72." Between the lugs at 6 o'clock are the engraved numbers "311xxxx" and engraved between the lugs at 12 o'clock is "REGISTERED DESIGN" followed by "1665." The crystal shows light scratching. The 26 jewels Swiss "MONTRES ROLEX S.A." stamped hacking Caliber 1570 (technically it's a 1575 since it has a date wheel) automatic movement keeps accurate time and the date wheel rolls over at 12 am. This movement does not have a quickset function. The hacking feature works by unscrewing the crown and pulling it out which stops the seconds hand. The seconds hand will resume running when the crown is pushed back in. After recently winding the crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 48 hour power reserve period. The crown unscrews and screws back down perfectly as it should and winds buttery smooth. The last known movement services were performed by Rolex in 1999 and Rik Dietel in 2012. A complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 39 mm excluding the crown, approximately 43 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 12 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 14 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 48 mm. The original bracelet was replaced by Rolex in 1999. It shows virtually no stretch. This watch comes with a Rolex service center box, Rolex one year service warranty (long since expired), one spare bracelet link, service booklet, "Important Reminder" tag and an old Rolex cleaning cloth. A complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided. Thanks for looking!***********I am a long time VRF (vintagerolexforum.com) member in good standing.
