Description: This double-sided original map explores the urban rail network of Greater Tokyo as it existed in 1969 with this extensive railway map, listing trains, private railways, subways, and five types of electric car lines. It also covers all three sizes of stations, as described in its legend. Tokyo’s rail system is notoriously fragmented between public and private rail systems which are all included here. On the reverse, is the map of 1969 downtown Tokyo, with a focus on the area from the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda City to Shimbashi station along the primary rail artery of the city center. The street names are reduced to numerical and alphabetical values, making it easy to read for an English-speaking audience. Prominent businesses, hotels, government buildings, and restaurants from that time are all boldly outlined on the map. This 21” x 16” (53 cm x 41 cm) vintage map was published in 1967. It is in excellent vintage used condition. It has been stored folded with only two small (less than 1 cm) fold splits that are only visible when held up to light. There is some discoloration due to age and a small 1” portion with light purple marker/pen marks, which can be seen in the photos provided. The printed last "9" in 1969 is original to the printing, and looks stylistically different than the first "9" in 1969. It was printed this way and not altered at a later date. It may have been rather than recut a new die for printing the date, they simply altered the "7" in the original 1967 die/plate to reflect 1969.
