You are looking at an older Turner U9S model dynamic microphone from the 1950's that comes with a period Atlas DS-5 model cast iron desk stand in which to display. This was a classic Turner model that was both rugged and used as a general purpose mic. You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1949 Turner advertisement showing specs and priced on these 40's era mics. The U9S model was an affordable, all metal design with a lower yoke and dynamic element that had the multi impedance setting. This mic had a classic style that was copied by several microphone companies from the 1930's and into the 1950's before the style faded out. These Turner models are often mistaken for the more valuable RCA models used in F.D.R fireside chats during the Great Depression as there are many similarities. As seen in the pictures provided this old U9S has a very nice overall original finish with lite cosmetic wear. The umber gray paint is free of any dents or engravings but there is a few scratches and scuff marks in the painted finish as well as a few small paint chips. This one has been tested and this example no longer works. The elements often fail at this age but a working one can easily be installed and there is plenty of room inside to work with. The original black inner screen is present and looks great. The chrome exterior mesh screen looks great with zero dents or tarnish and the thumbscrews on the yoke look real nice. The cosmetic condition I would rate a conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 and the threads for both the cable and stand are perfect. Let the pictures be your guide please. The impedance screw on the rear of the mic does work giving you the low, medium and high Z option but again, the dynamic element does not work on the mic. The U9S model was the most expensive of the three 99 series offered because of this impedance switch. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a 1950's era Atlas model microphone desk stand. This stand has the cast iron painted base with polished chrome stem / riser. The DS-5 is a very modern design which has been sold for over 80 years now and makes a great platform for small, medium and larger sized mics with it's low center of gravity and heavier base. This particular stand has virtually no wear as you can see. No paint chips, scratches, dents or fractures. The chrome riser looks excellent. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. All 3 rubber pads are original and work great. It will keep the stand from scratching any surface it sits on. Mic stand with mic on top is appx 12 inches tall X 6 inches wide. The stand really compliments the Turner U9S as well. The U9S with it's industrial, deco look is quite stunning and will look amazing anywhere it sits in the home, office or studio. An instant conversation piece. And as with all my items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy.
