Description: Hello and welcome to The house of Chrome. You are looking at one of the most famous and collectible Turner mics of all time. The Turner 33D with heavy deco influence and outrageous style that set it apart from most every other microphone ever designed. This is the 2nd generation 1950's 33D series mic and it comes with the short cable shown in which to operate. This 33D will make a great general purpose mic to use for several different applications. You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1949 Turner advertisement showing specs and price on this mic. This 2nd generation 33D was introduced in 1949 and had the new redesigned rectangular Turner badge on the lower pistol grip. If you are looking for a good harp mic to place on a stand or just want a basic broadcasting mic then the 33D will get the job done. Great for a HAM radio set up as well. The mic has a very old school "rockabilly" tone that void of bass. I have actually seen pics of these mics being used as vocal mics for bands though they are not exactly ideal for that situation. They are omni-directional as well picking up more background noise. It should be noted that finding a 33D that still works is getting quite hard. For every three of these model mics I come across it seem that two are either non-working from bad elements are simply to weak to use. This example has defied the odds and will do you justice. 100% output. No issues. The 33 series was first introduced in the 1940's and had a run of about 20 + years. The first generation 33 mics had a rounded lower pistol grip while the 2nd generation had the flat rectangular lower front pistol grip. Otherwise, the microphone looked the same. The 33 series also came with either a crystal or dynamic element. The crystal elements were inferior and wore out over time while the dynamic elements sounded much better and tended to last over the decades. This is the dynamic version with the original element and it works like new. As you can see the satin chrome finish is in really nice overall condition with very lite signs of wear as seen in the pics provided. No engravings, dents, deep scratches or fractures either. Just a few smaller spots of pitting. The satin chrome finish still has a beautiful luster and this is one of the nicer examples I have ever come across. The black cloth screen is perfect with zero rips or holes and the joint mechanism is flawless offering plenty of resistance to get the right angle needed and the threads for both the cable and stand are perfect. The Turner badge shows very little wear and completely legible. The overall finish of the mic I would give a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The short original cable is provided and it's in excellent physical and operating condition. I had to add the standard male XLR Switchcraft end connector as much of the original cable had been damaged from decades of use. Simply attach a longer XLR cable with a standard male 1/4 inch connector to the short cable provided and you are in business. The 33D will screw onto any stand you have. If you need the most reliable 33D out there...this is an easy choice. It's the only working 33D I currently have as well and I rarely get a working one in so don't let this one slip away.
