Vintage 1950s Borsalino HARE-English Rabbit Fedora 7-1/4

Description: Borsalino - Late 1940s? ( please read below, one of Dad’s hat collectors has been helping us with this listing) - Black Fedora, size 7-1/4, read below. This is made from Pure Hare (English Rabbit). EXTREMELY SOFT AND THICK! NO HAT BOX! It’s just there because Dad asked to have it in the picture, Dad believes that that type of hat box was probably what it was originally sold in?We filled the picture gallery so you can see every detail! We NEVER hide anything! So please look at all the pictures on this True Vintage Borsalino fedora.So when this was found the original Leather Sweatband was dried out and cracking. Both Dad and Grandson carefully removed it so that the Black Leather strip can be mounted to replace it. It is a new piece of black leather so it’s very clean and soft and pliable making it easily mounted to the inside.We used to do this but because we are not as young as we were and our hands just don’t work like they used to! We have always used that Weldwood glue and the results always came out perfectly. It just takes a bit of care and time. See pictures and if you have any questions please write to us. Dating this was easily done. The Inside tag was easily identified as coming from what we initially thought was from the 1950s but one of Dad’s hat collectors saw the picture of the tag inside and pointed out that the left side of that tag is broken off and would have had written on it “BORSALINO”, which he says dates this to the late 1940s to early 1950s. See the picture showing that tag. He also explained that NOT everyone of the 1940s tags had the serrated edges going around it. We are still a bit stumped on this one but we are certain that this is a True Vintage Borsalino Fedora!Tye Model name is V.PINO #6949 (restocking number we believe?), Color States: MEDIANO, Size States 5-1/2 (That coverts to a size 7-1/4 in American hat sizes and printed sideways it states: 100 PELO (this is 100% Hare, English Rabbit).You can see the Longer Rabbit Hair Fibers if you look closely at the pictures and blow them up a bit.The tag states this is the European size 5-1/2 which translates to an American Size 7-1/4 and like always we verified the size 3 times, read below. We placed the leather sweatband inside the fedora when we measured it and you can see that there was a bit of overlapping when it was placed inside. So the picture that we added shows (with that overlap) that this measures a fraction under a perfect 7-1/4 but that’s only because of the overlapping of the extra long leather strip. We hope that we are explaining this well? If not please write to us and we will try and give a better explanation.Dad only cleaned with a horsehair brush and it’s clean now! And then steam shaped it into what you see now in the picture gallery. Though Dad and I missed the surface moth chews, probably because the long Hare Fibers were covering them up partially and our Older Eyes just didn’t see them. My Grandson did a final inspection and has added pictures of those surface moth chews. They are hard to see but they are there, see pictures towards the end. We don’t know why it doesn’t come out consistently in all the pictures? It’s all the same color! The picture of the whole underside and looking down from the top of the hat best reflects the actual color.Inside the home it appears to be a very very Dark Dark Gray but outside in the morning sunlight it does look black. So you are buying the hat color that’s shows the whole underside, if you have any opinions on the color please write to us. The brim will be turn up and all You’ll need to do is flip it back down. We have stored one of my grandson’s Borsalino’s inside now for over 2 weeks before listing these hat carriers and it is perfectly shaped when removed! Just had to flip the brim down. There is a size tag stating “5-1/2”, (That’s the Italian hat size) and the under-tag that states the same size 5-1/2 This measures to a PERFECT 7-1/4, with the leather sweatband placed into position. We actually measure the hat 3 times to determine the size, tagged or not. If you look at another of Dad’s Borsalino Hats that are listed with the hat sizing chart conversion (on that paper advertisement), it also agrees with our measurements. If you blow up the ad you can see the numbering systems. This is a size 7-1/4 Or 22-3/4 inches or 58 Length 12 inches Width 10.4 inches Height 4.25 inches, at the tallest point Matching Hatband 1.1 inches, still completely and securely attached, looks pretty darn clean too! We saw NO stains on it, so please look at all the pictures. Wide Brim 2 inches The Leather Strip is Black, 24.7 inches long and 1.55 inches wide (we left it a bit longer so you can trim it to be the exact size to fit perfectly into place and a perfect width so it will be easily mounted into place! It width is wide enough to completely cover the inside tag and will look perfect when mounting is completed.
