Description: This watch was my best find. I was looking through a metal toolbox in an antiques centre (looking for watchmaking tools) and I found this watch rusted and stuck to the bottom of the toolbox. The crystal was completely white and the strap was green where the copper fittings held it in place. I bought 2 files and the guy let me have the watch. The front of the case had a gouge presumably where another tool had dropped a tool on it! When I got it home I tool the strap off and left it soaking in leather conditioner. The case came apart easily and the crystal fell out as the case front had been bent a little. The movement was very clean and when wound, the balance wheel started without the need for coaxing. There is something life affirming about old watches that just want to work! One quick lubrication service later and the amplitude, beat error, and timekeeping would put many later watches to shame. The case top had a small crack near the crown (hence the deformation), but with some coaxing was put back into reasonable shape, the casebook was polished but you can still see the pitted rust marks, and a new crystal fitted. The strap responded well to treatment and is pretty good and functional. Apart from the rust marks on the back and the gouge on the front this is an excellent watch. Less vintage and more antique, this watch was produced in 1939 by Everite. Everite branded watches were produced for H Samuel the jewellers. The movements are swiss rotary movements. The caseback is gold plated, the case front I believe is rolled gold as the initials on one of the lugs are RG. (unless it belongs to someone called Roger Garrett).
