Description: Very nice Vietnam era 1960s/ 1970s Air Force Senior Security Police Qualification/ Function Badge. Full size example! These badge were awarded to all Airmen who served under the Air Force security branch. These function badges were worn on the dress and mess dress uniforms while the iconic large shield badge was worn on the duty uniform in either patch or badge form. There were worn on the dress uniform! This badge is hallmarked 1/20 silver filled meaning it is 1/20th sterling silver / also marked 22/M in a shield. This mark is for the famous Meyers insignia company. These were short lived like this and used between 1967- 1974. This badge in Silver Filled was only used for about 7 years. This makes it a fairly scarce and interesting badge! These badges have been obsolete since 1998. It was some what challenging to find much info on them! Currently they are using what is called the Air Force Security Force protection function badge. The badge can be earned by both officers & enlisted men in all 3x grades. It can be worn by security police or special investigations units! It is some what of an interesting badge having a fairly short lived 25-30 year usage period! It is a very interesting badge and this is an excellent early example of this badge!
