Description: Lovely early Victorian Hair Locket Mourning Brooch, dating to circa: 1830’s. The Brooch is rectangular with a shiny Black Enamel border with gold symbols / letters and ornate gold borders. It has a original C Clasp on the reverse. Engraved on the reverse it reads: “Our Mother”. The first part of the ‘Our’ is overlapped by the clasp. Woven blond or light brown hair is neatly displayed under the crystal in the center (note the crystal has a crack). Other than the crack in the crystal the Brooch is in otherwise very good condition. The Enamel is in good shape with only minute age related wear seen under high magnification…no cracks or flaking. When held at certain angles the black enamel is very shiny. In profile the Brooch was designed with a slight arch. Aged patina on the reverse which can be easily hand polished clean. The Brooch tests to at least 10K Gold and has good heft. It measures approximately 11/16” x 5/8” inches. Very pretty and sentimental antique Victorian Enamel and Gold Mourning / Memorial Brooch! Was clearly treasured. It shows well in the photos and just as pretty in person! Photos taken with and without a camera flash.
