Description: Victorian 14k Gold Hardstone Agate Cameo Brooch Left Facing Amazing Detail 17.3g Click images to enlarge Description If you have a true appreciation for above-average cameos, you'll recognize this as one of those. This is a hand-carved hardstone (agate) cameo of a woman with so much detail, for such a relatively small object. She is one of the more rare left-facing cameos, which means she was probably carved by a left-handed artist. She is set in a solid 14k yellow gold bezel frame. The subject of the cameo is a pretty young lady, with her curls cascading down her back. She wears a short veil or hat, and her face is perfectly carved. Even the bodice of her dress has details carved within the stone. The creamy white cameo is offset by the pale pinkish-grey agate base on which she is carved. (Our estate jeweler believes the pin mechanism may be a replacement, because of the type of clasp on it, but we have no detailed history on this cameo). This beautiful cameo brooch measures 1.5" by 1.25". It tests strongly positive for at least 14k gold and weighs 17.3 grams. It is in excellent vintage condition.
