Mint State examples are fairly available through MS 64, but gems are quite rare. The problem of extreme die erosion, so prevalent for 1808-14 halves, seems to be have been overcome. It's not known whether this resulted from better heat treatment of the dies or from more frequent replacement of them. A total of 12 obverse dies were paired with ten reverses for a combination of 15 die marriages. Three of these were overdates and are described in the entry following this one. Of the non-overdate varieties, only die state O-112a is moderately rare. The others are generally available to collectors in circulated grades. None are particularly notable, and only the overdates have a separate line in popular catalogs.
