Description: **VERY RARE** ANTIQUE c.1830’s JOHN RIDGWAY Staffordshire StoneWare Platter REGINA Pattern Blue Transferware This is a VERY RARE John Ridgway Blue Staffordshire Transferware Platter, Circa 1830’s, decorated in the Regina Pattern featuring pheasants perched on a large tree branch abundant with flowers and leaves. The platter has a gently scalloped form and the border has a vine and flower pattern. It is a very large platter, I believe they call it a meat platter at this size, and measures approximately 17”x14”. The Pattern is Named 'REGINA' which is Latin for Queen and probably celebrates the start of Queen Victoria's reign in 1837. The back of the platter is clearly marked “Stone Ware J.R REGINA' on a Belted and Crowned Floral Cartouche. The J.R. mark was the earlier mark used by the John Ridgway pottery in the early 1800’s. Later pieces bore the full Ridgway name. So this is a really very fine piece of early Staffordshire, almost 200 years old!! This exquisite platter is in phenomenally excellent shape with no cracks or hairlines, scratches, repairs or restoration. I don’t even see any crazing. This piece is beyond remarkable for it’s age. I have looked high and low and perused many sites and have not found any item such as this one, a platter by Ridgway in this pattern. It is extremely rare and even more so, the extraordinary condition and size of it make it an absolute asset to a prized collection. See my other pieces of blue Transferware I have listed. I won’t combine shipping with this item but will with the others.
