Description: Name: Hydrocephalus carens Age: Middle Cambrian Formation: Jince Formation Location: Jinetz, Czech Republic Size: Trilobite is almost 5 inches long! We recently acquired some nice fossils from the late Joseph Butterfield Collection (NJ). We will be auctioning these fossils here over the next few weeks. This is a large example of a classic Eastern European trilobite. This is an impressive specimen of Paradoxides gracilis (carens?) from the Middle Cambrian of the Czech Republic. This type of trilobite has a huge glabella, thoracic segments that terminate in short pleural spines, and a rounded pygidium. These features are well defined on this specimen. The classic trilobite is well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very distinct example of this "Old World" trilobite from the Butterfield Collection.
