You are buying ONE (1) each of a Very High Thermal Conductivity High Purity Beryllia Ceramic Cylinder Heat Sink. They are in mint new condition. They are made from 99.5% purity Beryllium Oxide (BeO) which of course is Beryllia. Generally the balance of composition for this purity Beryllia material is a mix of Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) which is Silica and Magnesium Oxide (MgO) which is Magnesia. This material has very high thermal conductivity, very high stiffness, very good corrosion resistance to chemicals at high temperature, and very high refractoriness or use temperature. It may be used for a variety of electrical, mechanical, and thermal applications. They may be used as setter plates for firing parts in a kiln. They may be used for high temperature furnaces and as high temperature refractory setters. Beryllium Oxide (BeO), commonly called Beryllia, is a unique ceramic material that will serve double duty as both an electrically insulating material and a heat sink by virtue of its high electrical resistivity and very high thermal conductivity. Beryllia is used extensively in high power semiconductor parts, RF and Microwave power packages, laser diode sub mounts, high power laser bores, thermocouple tubing and numerous other applications. Beryllia is an essential material for these applications because no other materials with the exception of pure Diamond will work as well, from the perspective of thermal transfer. The health and safety issues that surround Beryllia has been clarified with the recognition by the Defense Electronic Supply Center, a unit of the US Department of Defense, that beryllia is completely safe when handled in the solid ceramic form. According to the DESC bulletin, “hazards occur only with the inhalation of fine airborne particles of BeO, which are smaller than 10 microns and which may be encountered during basic manufacturing processes”.
