Description: Beautiful New Mexico souvenir plate made by Vernon Kilns from Vernon CA. These plates were mfg. using transferware process in placing scenes from local tourist areas onto a porcelain plate, then kiln fired to produce various dinnerware. The art was produced by several well-known artists active in the 30's, 40's, and 50's such as Orpha Klinker, Don Blanding and Rockwell Kent. This is a standard stock place offered in the Vernon Kilns catalog for souviner and other tourist shopping areas. The plate depicts various scenes from around the state, including Carlsbad Caverns, University of New Mexico and several Native American adobe scenes. Around the rim are native symbols of various New Mexican tribes. Plate measures 10.25" and is a deep maroon color. No cracks, chips or crazing. A beautiful piece of mid-century art!
