N.p., 1925-1926 Description: Vintage stringbound scrapbook compiled by a Mary Hodgins, documenting her time at Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas, from 1925-1926. Album holds 50 black-and-white snapshots, a few postcards, and miscellaneous ephemera from Hodgins' time at the school, with her captions in manuscript ink throughout, and several pages of inscriptions to Hodgins from (presumably) her fellow students. With a six-page manuscript letter from Hodgins' parents laid in, along with a photograph of an unidentified man. Founded in 1907 in response to a pressing need for teachers in the state, the institution opened its first term in the fall of 1908, initially operating as the Arkansas State Normal College, with a student body of around 100 pupils. In 1925 the name of the college would be changed to the Arkansas State Teachers College, and a training school would be erected, serving as a professional laboratory of sorts for the student teachers to practice and observe. With a substantial increase in enrollment after World War II, the school rapidly grew in size through the middle and late twentieth century, and would racially integrate in 1956.
