Description: ENGAGING TURN OF THE LAST CENTURY COLORADO PHOTO ALBUM Author: [Vernacular Photography] Title: ENGAGING TURN OF THE LAST CENTURY COLORADO PHOTO ALBUM Description: A photographic album with 156 black and white images of people, places, and events mainly centered around Colorado, showing the early development of agricultural communities. The photographs are not captioned; however, one of the images bears a "H.A. Willis Timnath, Colorado" embossed stamp. According to ancestry records, Howard Albert Willis (1891-1967) lived in Timnath his entire life. His father was a farmer and he worked as a mechanic. The album contains photographs of work on railroad tracks and the construction of a reservoir, as well as people camping and farming, possibly in and around Timnath. Founded in 1882, Timnath is a small agricultural community located southeast of Fort Collins with a recorded population under 200 people through 1990. The Timnath Reservoir was constructed in 1891-92, and The Greeley, Salt Lake and Pacific Railway began operations in 1883. A series of four photographs show railroad tracks being laid or perhaps repaired. Also among the photographs is a snapshot of the Stroebel Airship, surrounded by signs which advertise "the most sensational flight ever attempted in Denver" by aviator J. Ebri to "sail through the air" with a message to Governor Shafroth on Monday, August 2, 1909. A half dozen other images show the state capitol of Utah in Salt Lake City and the Mormon Temple. At the rear of the album are 18 panoramic images which measure 2 ½" x 6 ½". These images show landscapes, camping, and ranches. Otherwise, the photographs in the album generally measure 5" x 4" and are in very good condition. They are affixed to the pages of the cloth-bound album with corner tabs. Three images are missing but overall the album is in very good condition.
