During World War II, Verl Jett became a U.S. Army Air Forces ACE, credited with shooting down 7 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war, he transferred to the new U.S. Air Force and retired in 1963. Captain (Air Corps) Verl Erwin Jett (ASN: 0-424961), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the enemy as a Fighter Pilot of the 36th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group, FIFTH Air Force, in action against the enemy in aerial combat in the Pacific Theater of Action during World War II.
