Description: Hand carved and hand painted by Vaughn and Stephanie Rawson, this carving of the king and his blackbird pie is from the early English rhyme, “Sing A Song of Sixpence “, a British nursery rhyme about capturing an enemy ship. There are many interpretations surrounding the rhyme. Because pirates were known as blackbirds at the time, it could be assumed the king’s navy had captured some and saved a ship from danger. Thus the presentation of a big fat pie to their king in celebration. It is another carving of the king which was part of a series of carvings of nursery rhymes he began in 1992. All are exceptional. This vintage carving is rare and in excellent condition. It is one of two from a private collection. It measures: Overall…H / 6.5”, W / 3” D / 3” Figure…..H / 5.5”. W / 3” D / 2.25” Vaughn Rawson passed away in 2015. But his wonderful carvings live on. I know this one will also find a grand home….
