Description: BONJOUR DE BOURGOGNE ;)Vase attributed to Clément MASSIER in VALLAURIS, Art Nouveau trilobed vase with polychrome floral decorationGlazed ceramic vase, decorated with polychrome floral metallic enamel in a trilobed shape, three twisted handles, circa 1890-1900.Clément Massier (1844 Vallauris - 1917 Golfe-Juan) is considered the founder at the beginning of the 20th century of the modern ceramic industry in Vallauris. He was introduced to pottery by Gaetano Gandolfi, an Italian master ceramicist hired by his father. Gandolfi will be the initiator of several techniques, including enameled earthenware, which will make the Massier house famous. In 1887, he became official supplier to the English crown. Clément also works with renowned artists such as the Scottish sculptor Alexandre Munroe, the ceramist Félix Optat Milet trained in Sèvres, the sculptor James Vibert, the painter Jules Scalbert. But above all it was the artist Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer who worked for Clément Massier from 1887 to 1895 as artistic director of the factory. It is a very pretty designer piece in good condition, seems to have been formerly restored with three dots of slip on the enamel underneath (see photos).
