The only known localities for the mineral in the U.S. are several places in New York and New Jersey. The Uvite is embedded in matrix, with the exposed crystal faces being lustrous, and which collectively measure about 7.0 cm x 5.0 cm x 2.0 cm. There is very minor chipping along crystal edges. Uvite is a rather rare member of the Tourmaline Group.
