Description: USS Cyclops: a WW I Navy Coal Supply Ship memorial naval cover postmarked at Pascagoula, MS on May 5, 1983. Photo of the ship printed in blue on cachet #3419 by Alvin Eckert, #9964, USCS. Cover franked with a 20 cent flag stamp. Cover prepared on an Archive Quality Envelope without gum on the flap. USS Cyclops: a 542' coal supply ship from the Pre-First World War period, was lost in March 1918 by a presumed storm in the Bermuda Triangle after leaving the Barbados. She was heavily loaded with a load of manganese and 306 passengers and crew were lost in this famous disaster. The wreck has not been located, but deep-sea treasure hunter-documentary film organizations may use high-tech methods to find this illusive shipwreck. See her web pages for the details of her design, construction and service history, including grounding narratives. Seller has over 20 ship disaster covers. Check out my other items!
