Description: USS BOWFIN SS-287 LAUNCH PINBACK, LAUNCHED IN 1942, US NAVY WWII SUBMARINE, A WWII WAR MEMORIAL AT PEARL HARBORThis original colorful launching pin was an official launching party token that was issued to naval personnel and civilian employees authorized to attend sub launches from the shipways. They were only issued for launches of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard submarines from either Portsmouth, NH or Kittery, Maine.THE LAUNCH PIN MEASURES 1 3/4" ACROSS. IT MADE OF A CELLULOID COVERED TIN PINBACK.THEY WERE MANUFACTURED BY THE PHILA. BADGE CO. PHILA. PA. AS SHOWN ON THE EDGE OF SEVERAL OF THE BADGES. I HAVE ONLY SEEN THE MANUFACTURERS MARK ON THE USS MARLIN, GRAYLING, GRENADIER, BILLFISH AND CISCO. (SEE LAST PHOTO SHOWING SOME OF THE MARKINGS).
