Description: Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! This is a FINE example of a unit logo patch for 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion. These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Assault Amphibian Battalions are direct descendants of the old AmTrack battalions of WWII. And since that time, of course, the heraldic symbol for amphibious warfare has always been the alligator! The primary vehicle of these units is currently the AAV-7A1. Third Assault Amphib served with distinction in Desert Storm with 1st Marine Division (Reinforced.) They are based at Camp Pendleton, CA. Recent Decades: According to the unit website, 3rd Assault Amphib Bn served in Operation Iraqi Freedom during 2003 and 2004. No info on additional tours in Iraq, Afghanistan or elsewhere in the war on terror, but later deployments may consist of individual companies, or smaller sub-units.
