Description: Vintage USAF Martin B-57 Canberra lapel pin. The B-57 was manufactured by the Martin Company (now Lockheed Martin Corporation) under license from the British English Electric Company. The aircraft was entered service with the USAF in 1953 and was used as a tactical bomber and, perhaps more importantly, in reconnaissance (RB-57) and electronic warfare (EB-57) roles. The aircraft was used during the Vietnam War and was retired from service by the USAF in 1983. Pin has a red enameled checkmark behind the aircraft and was presented by the aircraft manufacturer to individuals who passed a “check ride” and were approved or certified to fly the aircraft. Lapel pin is approximately 1” long. Pin has a screw back and a threaded nut. Pin is gold-colored metal (possibly gold-plated or gold-filled, but I’m not certain and there are no markings on the back of the pin). Lapel pin appears to be in very good used condition with signs of age and wear, such as minor scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, discoloration, some loss of finish, and minor oxidation at the base of the screw on back.
