USA WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes blade theater-made fighting dagger; USMC-marked scabbard

Description: An interesting WW2 era "theater-made" fighting knife with the British Fairbairn-Sykes fighting dagger blade and hand-fitted aluminum handle. "Regular" WW2 FS daggers are illustrated on page 133 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey (scan attached). Only slightly used; the blade has been gently sharpened; the tip is intact. Solid aluminum handle and guard; all parts are tight. This dagger is about 11-1/4" / 28.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8" / 17.5 cm; original light-gray patina throughout; a couple of minor surface rust spots are noted for accuracy. Hand-made leather scabbard with a nice "twisted rope" pattern and letters USMC super-embossed on the front. All original stitching and rivets are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. A certainly one of kind fighting knife; possible made on a US Navy ship as it was often the case with American "theater knives". The blade came from the "standard-issue" FS dagger; the handle seems to be cast aluminum with machine-cut "bands" for a better grip. Several "regular" WW2 era FS 3rd pattern daggers are illustrated on page 133 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey - a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book's page scan attached). The Fairbairn-Sykes stiletto was originally designed as the "commando dagger" for the elite British special-ops forces, these "FS" fighting knives became super-popular with the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during the war. The allied servicemen carried FS daggers in practically every combat theater in Europe, North Africa and in the Middle East. This dagger is only slightly used; it is in much better than average condition for the type - rare as such. The blade has been very gently sharpened; the edges are razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Solid cast aluminum handle and guard; all parts are tight with no play. This dagger is about 11-1/4" / 28.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8" / 17.5 cm; the blade has a nice original light-gray patina throughout; a couple of minor surface rust spots are noted for accuracy.
