Description: USA Silver 1856 Quarter With E.P. EVERETT Countermark RARE (First Known on 25C) Very cool and unique discovery piece for this frequently encountered countermark. This is the first known example of the E.P. EVERETT countermark on a silver quarter. This countermark is always previously seen on Liberty Head large cents (see Brunk E-245 and Rulau Z11E). Like those large cent pieces, the curved countermark was carefully applied so the letters would follow the curvature of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the host coin. However, since the quarter is slightly smaller than the large cents, the main punching of E.P. EVERETT extends into UNITED. The countermark was then shifted down and oriented so a second E. only was punched just under UNITED. The host coin has some circulation and hairlines but has a clear date and countermark.
