The position was created in 1946 following the end of World War II, and it was based in London, England.The primary responsibility of the CINCUSNAVEUR was to ensure that U.S. naval forces were trained and ready to support U.S. and NATO military operations in Europe. This included conducting exercises and joint operations with NATO partners, as well as maintaining a strong naval presence in the region to deter potential adversaries.Throughout the Cold War, the CINCUSNAVEUR played a critical role in ensuring the security of Europe.
