Description: USA (#26) used in CSA tied with MONTGOMERY, AL CDS FEB 10, 1861 addressed to Mr. John A Cobb, Macon, Georgia. John Addison Cobb (1838-1925), son of Howell Cobb, enlisted on April 20, 1861 as a Private in the Georgia 2nd Infantry. He was soon promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant in the GA 16th, then to 1st Lieutenant/Aide-de-camp on his father's staff, General Howell Cobb. This cover presumably written in the hand of Howell Cobb served as the President of the Provisional Congress of the Confederate States. The 1st session was held at Montgomery, AL from February 4, 1861, to March 16, 1861.
