URUSHIKKI & NURI MONO DECORATIVE BOWL AIZU LACQUERWARE VTG BURMESE JAPANESE

Description: History of AIZU. AIZU lacquerware, which has been cultivated over a 500 year tradition, is characterized by a variety of decoration methods and a pickpocket potter’s wheel that efficiently and uniformly turns wood of a uniform shape. The origin of AIZU lacquerware is said to date back to the Muromachi period, when the Ashina clan encouraged the planting of lacquer trees during the Murotoku era (1449-1452), and then during the Tensho era (1573-1592). It is said that during the reign of Ujisato Gamo in 1997, he invited Hino bowl craftsmen from Omi and spread the technique to AIZU. The registration on this piece is SK-HS-0008. If anyone has more information regarding the bowl, please email me as I am intrigued. Thank you for looking!
