Description: Written by highly decorated Commander Edward Ellsberg, "Under the Red Sea Sun." This is a very rare copy of a very rare book concerning the early years of the war (WWII) and essential Allied Salvage operations against the Italians off the coasts of Africa. This is a 1946 first edition copy of a very scarce Wartime book. "A gripping first-hand description of the salvage operations at the port of Massawa on the Red Sea coast of Eritrea during the early days of World War II. When forced from the region, Italian troops had scuttled many ships to block the important harbour, which was vital to the British war effort. Ellsberg, an American salvage officer, was placed in charge and a small group of workers under his direction accomplished an almost Herculean task with virtually no resources." The book is in good shape - the original dust jacket shows some mild wear. The book and pages are clear of personalizations, writings, and highlighting. The book pages have some slight waviness to them - they may have had some temporary exposure to moisture once upon a time - but the book has a good smell, is still in good reading condition and has a tight binding. Book will come as shown. Enjoy.
