Nixon and Reagan figured out a good strategy for vilifying the hippie movement as zombie drugged out freaks and glorifying conformity, justifying an unjust war against a sovereign nation in SE Asia just for its economic policies that did not align with the US capitalist system -- a system that is much more beneficial to everyone, apparently, despite the fact that most of the world's wealth is controlled and consolidated by less than 1% of the world population. Remnants of this conflict still ripple across the world and the US particularly in the expression of the military industrial complex, the war on drugs, and the US becoming number one as mass incarcerator of its citizens via the prison industrial complex that enriches a small percentage of the population that maintains it. Joyce's book follows one man and his thoughts as he goes through a normal day in Dublin. Joyce felt that if you could take one day out of a person's life and closely analyze it you would know all you need to know about them. The character and the day in question occur on June 16th which has evolved into an international literary holiday of sorts called Bloomsday With non-stop readings of this book, James Joyce writing contests, literary freedom fairs, Joyce conventions, and other events occurring all over the world on that day every summer which also happens to be my birthday. which is apparently much more free, fair, and effective at consolidating the mass majority of the world's wealth and to a small percentage of less than 1% of the world population.
