Description: UAW tee XL union Local 840 throwback Auto-Lite Strike T shirt Toledo Auto Worker This is a previously-owned, adult-extra-large (XL), heather gray T-shirt with “AFSCME Local 840” printed on the front and “80th Anniversary / International Union United Automobile Workers of America / Chartered Aug. 28, 1935 / Auto-Lite Strike, 1934 / An injury to one is an injury to all” printed on the back. It measures approximately 21½ inches (from underarm seam to underarm seam), about 27 inches from back collar to bottom (Union Made brand, 100% cotton). The Toledo Auto-Lite strike was held by a federal labor union of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) against the Electric Auto-Lite company of Toledo, Ohio, from April 12 to June 3, 1934. The strike is notable for a five-day running battle between roughly 6,000 strikers and 1,300 members of the Ohio National Guard. Known as the "Battle of Toledo," the clash left two strikers dead and more than 200 injured. The strike is regarded by many labor historians as one of the three most important strikes in US history.
