Description: DESCRIPTION: Set of two 100% wool hand woven small rugs or table runners from Ortega’s Weaving Shop in Chimayo, New Mexico. Chimayo weavings are done by descendants of the early Spanish settlers in northern New Mexico who brought their weaving techniques, and type of looms, with them. It has been a center of weaving in the Southwest ever since. Chimayo weavings are considered part of the Spanish Colonial Art heritage of northern New Mexico. The larger one has a dark, forest green background and includes colors of blue (2 shades), cream, red, and even a little turquoise in the decorative bands and center medallion. It measures 9.5″ X 19″ not counting the fringe. Ortega's label intact. The smaller one has a turquoise background and includes colors of burgundy, coral, brown, and cream in the decorative bands and center medallion. It measures 9″ X 14.5″ not counting the fringe. Ortega's label intact. Both pieces are in very good condition with some very light fading and/or dust on the surface that was facing up (opposite side of the labels).
