Description: Two Boys - Youth – Brothers – Oil Painting Portrait – US Navy Patch - Vintage 1920’s Oil on panel of two (2) young boys, assumed to be brothers… Not signed or dated but family source info points to a Grand Rapids Michigan origin… Vintage – for sure – clothing, haircuts, toys and setting all point to early 20th century. The stacking blocks are a type I associate with the 1900-1930 period. The boy in the Windsor chair has a blue naval suit on and the patch with eagle / stripes would seem to be a fit for the US Navy (if you know more or better please let me know and I will update). The setting appears to be a nod to ‘colonial revival’ home fashion – again a good fit for the 1910-20’s period. I am assuming the ‘uniform’ is a salute to a father who was in the service (at least makes a good story!) Painting is quite skillful – from a little distance almost ‘photo realist’ on the boys’ faces – certainly captures their personalities. Setting is more impressionistic (as you might expect). Measures Painting 15” x 19” Frame 17” x 21” Condition Overall Good vintage condition. Frame appears to be original. No notable damage to the painting, Frame with some wear and scuffing. (Back of painting has a 1982 – assume that was when the black paper was applied – now removed and I investigated). . Please see the photos… A rescue from an estate in far Northern Michigan... 082024
