Description: TWO (2) original, Vietnam War, likely circa 1965, black and white, personal PHOTOGRAPHS of the U.S. Air Force Fairchild C-123 Provider. The Fairchild C-123 Provider is an American military transport aircraft designed by Chase Aircraft and built by Fairchild Aircraft for the U.S. Air Force. During the War in Vietnam, the C-123 was used to deliver supplies, to evacuate the wounded, for agent insertions behind enemy lines, and was also used to spray Agent Orange. Size: about 2 5/8" x 3 1/2"These photos would have likely been taken by then Colonel Freund and developed in-country while he was serving in South Vietnam. During his time serving in South Vietnam, he performed duties as Deputy Senior Corps Advisor, Director of Training for Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV), Assistant Director of the Joint United States Public Affairs Office, Special Assistant to the COMUSMACV General William Westmoreland, and finally as commander of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. Freund was wounded in August 1967 during an assault operation in Operation Fairfax and was brought back to the states in early September 1967.
