Description: THESE ARE NOT CALLED " HESHE" they NEVVVER WERE. Whites, call it that. HESHI means- ' Shell'. These are Not Shell. These are called;" STRAW BEADS", because thats whats used to make them. I WILL BE RESTRINGING THESE, the longer you take to buy it, the more time i will have to restore these back to the way they were originally(!). In the beginning, these had nooo silver drum beads,& Nooooo Italian Coral. Its possible these are 1800's & the Sterling from the 1900 turn of the century were added. A ton of Natives changed the buckskin straps to silver late 1800's early century. It was popular to look flashy for powwow. the Original Straw beads are from approx 1800's. Its hard to tell because they have " Gemed" & Straw beads were made to re sell 1800- 1934. Then there was a gap, & they were made in the 1960's. " Gemed" is when Turquoise mineral starts to polish like a Gem stone. That takes a ton of time or hand rubbing. If you want to buy these, & have me re string them, & take the 1980's crap off, & send it to you restored, let me know during the sale. I wont charge extra. & let me know if you want Buckskin leather straps or the old sterling hooks put on it. Ill send you the pieces not used also in the pack. Originally these Straw beads looked just great with Buckskin ties. By the look of the Sterling clasps, they seem 1900. I would place the date of this piece 1898-1919. Sterling cone ends were longer, & some times the sterling was worn not behind the neck but down the front like im wearing them in the photo. During 1920's it was extremely vogue to add Red glass or Coral a tiny bit to A Womans piece. These are 1930's Italian Coral. The color is too extreme for the old real Pale US Coral. Then who ever did these added 1980's Sterling! I call this- a mess. But it looks nice!.I grew up on the NM RES. Near the Pueblos, & im part Hopi. I have a degree in Forensic Archaeology, specializing in ancients of the SW area of N.America, ive bought & restrung these before. Correctly! Red Coral was mostly farmed out by the 1930's, & Native Art makers bought Italian Bright Red Coral. These Corals are REAL, & i dont think they are died. I did not salt water soak them to test, i tooth scratch tested. These are at a Mans, Ceremony length. I think they look fabulous, but i love my Old ways. Its stupid to play mine guessing games. 2 reasons,,, 1. Stones change colors. & 2. Turquoise was found on the ground across America up until the 1990's in my life time in areas ive lived! THEY DONT ALWAYS COME FROM A MINE.The other necklaces in photos are to show, how Straw bead looks, they are not included. Added info, the ROUND STERLING beads are & always have been called: NAIL BEADS., or Bench beads. NOT PEARLS. LENGTH: 23" BEAD SIZE: Normal, not seed
