Description: This triple combination includes the 1830 edition of the Book of Mormon, 1833 Book of Commandments, and the 1851 Pearl of Great Price bound in one book.1830 Book of MormonThe Book of Mormon was published in March 1830 in Palmyra, New York, under the direction of printer Egbert B. Grandin. The typesetting, printing, and calf-leather binding of 5,000 copies—nearly 3 million total pages—began in August 1829 at a cost of $3,000, paid for through the sale of part of Martin Harris’s farm. Copies of the book were read by converts, shared with families, and carried by missionaries to neighboring settlements and states, American Indian communities, and the British Isles. It is estimated that around 700 copies of the first original edition remain today. A second edition was printed in 1837.1830 original text set in same format as the 1st edition.Careful attention has been used to keep the text original to that 1830 publication including spelling errors and typos. In a few places spelling errors have been corrected when the meaning was difficult to understand. An old style font has been used to help the reader experience what it would be like to read the original copy.1833 Book of CommandmentsPrinting began in 1832 at a print shop in Independence, Missouri, owned by William W. Phelps. The printing was nearly complete in July 1833 when a mob ransacked the press shop. Several Saints risked their safety to salvage pages during the attack. Members both in Missouri and in Kirtland, Ohio, bound the salvaged pages into a few incomplete books, but the hoped-for release of thousands of copies was thwarted. Church leaders soon began another effort to publish the revelations They succeeded in 1835, publishing them in Kirtland under the title The Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, which the Saints sustained as “a law unto the church” and a “rule of faith and practice.Original 1833 TextSome spelling errors and typos have been corrected. This book is not a photo copy or facsimile of the original book. This edition uses an old font to give the reader the experience of reading the original book.Points of interestThe text to Wilford Woodruff's hand written version of the word of wisdom is included under Revelation, 27 February 1833.Corresponding sections of the current Doctrine and Covenants have been added to chapter headings making it easier to compare.1851 Pearl of Great PriceIn 1851 Franklin D. Richards of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles compiled this account with other writings, translations, and revelations into a pamphlet titled the Pearl of Great Price. The volume was later canonized by unanimous vote at the October 1880 general conference.Original TextThis edition contains the original 1851 text with British spelling and punctuation. Special effort was made to select similar fonts used in the original publication to help the reader experience what it might be like to read it.
