Oregonians slaughtered the original word brought by French Canadian fur trappers, but if you just remember this little phrase, all will be well, and you can enlighten and amaze your friends while sipping some of the excellent wines that come from this beautiful and fertile valley just southwest of Portland: It's WilLAMMit, dammit. (Don't say this if you're likely to get soap in your mouth for swearing.) I think it's French for "Let's kill all the beavers and raccoons, and make them into silly hats!"
