Description: The company Radius began in a small village near Stockholm, Sweden, as a machine shop. Was incorporated in 1913, and holds various patents. For decades Radius was a well-know brand manufacturing camping stoves, individual heating systems, blowtorches, lanterns, among others, and is still very popular today among collectors. Radius began manufacturing fishing reels and steel rods in 1940. The company started advertising various fishing reels in the early 1941. Even if its fishing product line was not extensive, Radius has had substantial success selling through mail order companies and distributors, and also manufacturing private label versions under the brand Craftsman. Radius lasted only seven short years in the fishing tackle business, during which its most important competitor was AB Urfabriken (ABU) from Svängsta. Radius stopped making fishing tackle in 1946, and by 1947 sold the manufacturing equipment and parts inventory to other company, makers of the Nordic fishing reels. Here we have an extremely rare and scarce example of RADIUS Special No. 291 level winding casting reel manufactured in Sweden in the early 1940s, in beautiful preowned conditions.The reel comes with its original box and manual, making it a tough to find complete set. The box, along the very rare and scarce original manual printed in 1943, are amazingly well preserved as seen in the pictures. Smoothly operating, the reel appears to be completely original and fully functional. Mechanically perfect with all controls and adjustments working as intended. No wobbling, no crazy sounds. No cracks, no missing parts. It features a chrome plated construction, lightweight aluminum spool, adjustable agate bearing caps, an adjustable offset brake, and a loud clicker which sometimes it jumps, and sometimes it doesn't. May need internal cleaning and some fresh lubrication. The level wind is moving smoothly from side to side. Cosmetically in very nice overall conditions showing moderate marks of use or aged wear as seen in the pictures. Clean finish with no markings or personalized engravings. The original fishing line is still mounted on the spool.
