It will help you add new dimensions of color to your playing, no matter what style you prefer or what level player you are. It includes over 4,000 chord voicings and more than 45 different chord types, covering major, minor, seventh, extended chords and more! "Really fast dispatch, best chord book I've ever had, multiple examples even up past the 12th fret - better than the internet! The Definitive chord book from really professional seller." 5 stars on May 29, 2008 From Guitar Player MagazineFormat: PaperbackTom Principato's Open String Guitar Chords should provide even the most dedicated pickers with months of inspiration. Arranged as a chord dictionary, the book moves through all 12 keys. But here the similarity ends: typical chord dictionaries repeat the same voicings up the neck---with these books, it doesn't take long to figure out that the same voicing appears 12 times--once in each key. By contrast, the grips in Open String Guitar Chords vary from key to key. Open String Guitar Chords offers a creative and free-from path to harmonic enlightenment. If you write music, you'll find lots of inspiration for fresh sounding progressions. Andy Ellis Guitar Player Magazine5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific book loaded with chords (0ver 4000)Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2022I have this book for many years and have gotten a great deal of use out of it. It is a terrific book and every page is loaded with beautiful open chords. This book never received the accolades it deserved. Not sure if it is in print, but it should be. I have started writing chord melodies again, and I am using the book again. Plus, I have always been amazed at how simple yet beautiful open chords can be....Open-String Guitar Chords is an amazing resource for anyone who's picked up a six string. If you're just picking up guitar, open string chords will help you avoid the dreaded barre chords. If you're a seasoned pro, Principato's book will give you inversions you probably never thought of. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's the making of a chord by placing some fingers on the strings but letting other strings just ring out without putting a finger on it and playing these combinations of strings at the same time. Eric Brace The Washington Post Somewhere between "The Land Of 1,000 Dances" and "99 Bottles of Beer On The Wall" lies a secret vault full of undiscovered guitar chords. How many chords are hidden there no one knows. But for over 20 years, guitar master Tom Principato has waged a one-man crusade to unearth them, searching for clues, like the Leakeys collecting artifacts from ancient civilizations. The results is "Open String Guitar Chords" a publishing of over 4,000 of his findings. Randy Matin Charlotte, NC Creative Loafing We've heard it from professionals for years: to play really well, you've got to know the fretboard. That means all the notes and all the chords from the nut to the highest fret. There are many chord diagram books, but these usually give you only the first-position notes or the basic root diagram. In this new book, the author provides chord diagrams for the entire fretboard. The book is arranged by chord, beginning with A and includes all inversions. For example, there are nine diagrams for the Am chord, and 16 for the Cadd9. A big advantage to knowing chords up the fretboard is that it keeps open strings available for a wider tone palette. Much of the Chet Atkins or Merle Travis playing style is built around open-string chords. If you find your playing has reached a plateau, this might be just the thing to move you to the next level. Eric Shoaf Vintage Guitar MagazineFrom the Author Tom Principato: I first became aware of open-string chords through the music of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis in the mid 1960's. Later in the 1970's, I heard Lenny Breau using much "jazzier" and extended open-string voicings in his music. This intrigued me enough in 1978 to begin this book. I was well into it when I performed a show at the Cellar Door nightclub in Washington, D.C. with Danny Gatton, Buddy Emmons, and Lenny Breau in April of 1979. In fact, that night in April, Lenny Breau and I had a discussion about open-string guitar chords--I even gave him a sampler sheet of some of the more interesting open-string chords I had compiled up to that point. Even though Lenny and I did not have any further discussion about open-string chords, I noticed he did a series of columns in Guitar Player magazine on this subject from November 1981 to January 1982.An increasingly busier schedule throughout the 1980's and the realization that this book would be a considerably larger undertaking than first imagined, slowed down progress for quite a while. But I always kept a near-finished rough draft for use and reference, and every time I discovered another good open-string voicing, I'd add it. Finally in 1997, nearly twenty years later, I mustered the determination and perseverance to expand and finish this book--and here it is. Refer to it whenever you need something special or different for a particular musical situation. I hope it opens some new doors for you as a guitarist.
